A newborn portrait session is the perfect way to capture the precious first weeks of your baby’s life. Unfortunately, newborns have their own schedules, and as a parent, you want the experience to be as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here are few tips to help ensure a calm and relaxed newborn session.
1. Timing is Everything
The best time for newborn photos is within the first two weeks of birth. During this time, babies are sleepier, curl up easily into those adorable poses, and tend to be more cooperative.
2. Dress Baby in Simple, Easy-to-Remove Clothing
Avoid outfits with too many buttons or zippers. A simple onesie or even a loose swaddle makes for an easy transition into wrapped poses without disturbing your baby too much.
4. Stay Calm and Relaxed
Babies are incredibly sensitive to their parents’ energy. If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, they can pick up on it. Take a deep breath, relax, and trust your photographer to work their magic. Lots of photographers often encourage their parents to relax and take a nap while they are shooting.
5. Have Essentials Handy
Diapers, wipes, extra blankets, and a pacifier (if your baby uses one) are great to have within arm’s reach. These little things help keep the session moving smoothly with minimal disruptions.
6. Allow for Breaks
There’s a reason newborn sessions are usually a minimum of two hours. Baby is boss! Be prepared to change a diaper(or two) or take a break for a feeding. Following your baby’s lead allows them the time they need and sets the session up to be a stress-free experience for everyone.
At the end of the day, your newborn session is all about capturing the love and connection in those first few weeks. By keeping these tips in mind, your session will be a relaxed, enjoyable experience filled with sweet, timeless memories.
